Machu Picchu

We woke up at 2 AM to get out spot in line  to be one of the first people to see Machu Picchu in the early morning light. As most people from other groups tried to sleep our group was up singing and dancing to old 80’s songs. We probably drove everyone else crazy. At 3:30 AM we were allowed to pass the checkpoint. After 3 grueling days we would be rewarded. This post again has tons of pictures and not much info. If you have questions leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them or check out my friend Sherri’s blog with a lot more details on the trip at her site Postcards and Coasters
We reached the Sun Gate about 7:30 AM.

We hadn’t even gotten to Machu Picchu and we were so excited. We were almost there!

We were able to walk around and learn about the ruins and the importance of many of the buildings like their temple.

After spending time at the main set of ruins we headed up to hike Wayna Picchu. You do have to have an extra permit to hike Wayna Picchu, I think it was 60 dollars. It is well worth it but make sure you get your tickets super early otherwise you will be out of look. The hike is very steep but offers amazing views of Machu Picchu.
